A Generation of Christian Mothers

“Give me a generation of Christian mothers, and I will undertake to change the whole face of society.”

I believe Lord Shaftesbury was correct when he made this famous statement.

Billy Graham said:

“If we had more Christian mothers, we would have less delinquency, less immorality, less ungodliness and fewer broken homes. Every mother owes it to her children to accept Jesus Christ as her personal Savior, so that she may be the influence for good in the lives of those whom the Lord has graciously given to her.”

I have learned a lot about Godly love from a Christian woman named Mary, the sister of Lazarus, whom Jesus raised from the dead. Her demonstration of love was so powerful that Jesus said, “wherever this gospel is preached in the whole world, what this woman has done will also be told as a memorial to her.”

Mary understood the work of Jesus. He had made wonderful changes in her heart. She had received with gladness the words of His life-transforming teaching. The fullness of His love filled all the gaps of loneliness, uncertainty and pain in her life. Mary worshipped Jesus out of gratitude for the richness and blessing that He had brought to her life.

Her worship proceeded from a heart that had been transformed by His everlasting love for her. She openly expressed her affection and adoration for Jesus by actually pouring a very costly perfume upon Jesus. The fragrance of the perfume filled the entire house.

The fragrance of God’s love has gone out to the entire world by the body of His Son broken and His costly blood that was poured out for the forgiveness of all our sins.

How can a mother possible fulfill all the duties and responsibilities demanded of her? Start by doing the one most important thing: Worship Jesus. Take time, make time or claim time!

I encourage you moms to sit at the feet of Jesus and learn of His unfailing love for you. Perhaps you can begin today by slowly reading the Gospel of John. Listen to His words. Open your heart to receive His life-changing love just for you. Then you can respond by loving the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength.

Let God faithfully and graciously replenish your exhaustion and frustration with His empowering Holy Spirit so you can fulfill your mission as a mom with a vision and a purpose for your children.

The greatest compliment a Christian mother can receive is to hear her children say, “My mom believes in God, she reads her bible and prays. She serves the Lord. She worships Jesus. My mom loves me, accepts me and encourages me. I want to follow the Lord, just like my mom.”
